The Giving Project

The Giving Project is a collaborative effort of everyday individuals from the Carolinas, is a powerful platform for learning and fundraising for social justice causes. It empowers community members to become donors and advocates of democratic resource allocation.

For our movements to thrive in self-determination and break free from reliance on traditional philanthropy, we must cultivate opportunities for our movements to be sustained and invested in by us. Through the Giving Project, we are able to fund the needs of our community that allow them to sustain themselves and support projects that other funders traditionally don’t fund.

Inspired by the concept of giving circles, our Giving Projects consist of six-month workshops that gather donors from diverse class and racial backgrounds to support social justice movements collectively. This democratic process for grant-making invites all participants to engage in political education around race and class, receive training in grassroots fundraising, learn directly from movement groups, and make collective decisions about the funds raised together.
